Original caption: S VIETNAM-12/18/67-: Helmets, rifles and jungle boots tell a grim tale of the action fought by the 1st Brigade, 101st airborne paratroopers in Operation Wheeler near Chu Lai. This battlefied memorial honors the GIs killed during the offensive which began September 11th and terminated Nov.25th. Currently the 101st airborne is being beefed-up in the biggest troop airlift in history. More than 6,500 paratroopers have arrived in Vietnam and another 3,800 members of the division are scheduled to join them before the movement is completed. By early next year a ceiling of 525,000 American troops will be in Vietnam-the total now is believed to be higher than the US’ strength in the Korean War.
Taken from a Vietnam War in pictures website, this has had title, feature and footer text added, a blood red mist, the US flag and army star. Finally, I embedded a US Marine embroidered badge into the neck of the boot in the foreground.
